Rally
Whenever fifers and drummers gather, it is almost inevitable that someone will call out "Rally" or "Rally 'Round the Flag!" The tune that follows is The Battle Cry of Freedom, composed by George Root, a prolific song writer of the Civil War era. Very popular among Union soldiers on the march as well as the public in general, it is frequently played today. Below is the score with the lyrics taken from Marching Songs of the Union.
However,
Another song of the same period that was almost equally popular actually had the name of "Rally 'Round the Flag." Composed by William Bradbury, the tune is seldom played today. This score was also taken from Marching Songs of the Union.
