This is a piece that I learned a long time ago from my fife instructor, Mr. Fred Sturtze, to whom I shall be eternally grateful. It doesn't date to the American Revolution or the Civil War. It was composed in 1905 by Mr. Arthur Pryor, a trombonist with the Sousa Band (1870-1942) who later became quite famous for his own orchestra. For many people who have more than a few silver threads among the gold, it will bring back a flood of memories from motion pictures they attended when they were children. It is a wonderful tune that always brings smiles from an audience. Try it and see. It might not be exactly the way it was first written, but this is the way I learned it.
